Understanding the Importance of Clearing Eyes Every Day

Maintaining eye hygiene is often forgotten. Unconsciously the eyes are exposed to dust, dirt, or other foreign objects, which can interfere with vision and daily activities. This condition is certainly very troublesome, especially if you are a contact lens user.

When dust, dirt, or other foreign matter enters the eye, you may rub your eyes to clean them. However, these habits can make your eyes irritable easily and risk causing blurred vision.

Therefore, it is very important to maintain eye hygiene regularly every day, in the right way.
When should the eyes be cleaned?
The eyes are very complex organs and are equipped with specially created parts to protect them from exposure to dust, dirt, or other foreign objects. Even so, these foreign objects may still enter the eye and cause their function to be disrupted.
Exposure to these foreign objects can irritate the eyes and become red, and can even cause inflammation in the eyes. To prevent this from happening, you need to clean your eyes in the right way if there is a foreign object that enters the eye. If there has been an eye disruption due to exposure to foreign objects, proper cleaning of the eyes is also needed so that the disorder does not become worse and complaints can be resolved.
Safe Ways to Clean Eyes
Many ways can be done to clean the eyes, but the way must be adjusted to the type of dirt that enters the eye. Here are some simple steps you can take to clean your eyes.
First, wash your hands with soap and water. Before cleaning your eyes, make sure you have removed the contact lens when using it.
Then, clean dust, dirt, or other foreign matter that enters your eyes by draining clean water that is dripped slowly into the eye.
Another way that can be done is to soak your eyes using an eye bath cup, glass, or small container of water. Then, lower your face and point the eye bath cup containing the water into the problem eye. When the eyes are submerged, do the opening and closing of the eyes repeatedly to remove dirt or foreign objects that are trapped inside the eye.
In addition to the self-care above, you can also clean your eyes daily using eyewash liquid. Eyewash liquids can help remove foreign objects and chemicals from the surface of the eye, and relieve symptoms of eye disorders, such as red, sore, or itchy eyes.
One of the common eyewash liquids used to clean the eyes is eye wash containing witch hazel ingredients. In addition to helping to clean the eyes, this substance is also able to relieve irritation or inflammation, so that the eyes will feel cool, fresh, and return to functioning properly. However, it is advisable to avoid the use of eyewash liquids which contain preservatives such as Benzalkonium chloride, because of the research that has harmful effects on the eyes.
If you choose to use eyewash liquid, choose a product that has been registered with BPOM (Food and Drug Supervisory Agency) to ensure its safety. Certain eyewash liquid products even have halal certification, so they can be used widely by the public.
So, never rub, scratch or clean your eyes with your hands, especially in dirty conditions. This is precisely the risk of causing disturbances in the eyes worse. If the complaint feels very disturbing or does not improve, it is advisable to consult an ophthalmologist so that appropriate treatment can be given.
